A magistrate was yesterday inundated with a collection of over 1,300 raunchy photographs alle-gedly sent to a man by his ex-girlfriend, who then accused him of repeatedly raping her throughout their five-month relationship.

Johan Stellingwerf, a 33-year-old Dutchman, told Magistrate Aaron Bugeja that the sexually explicit pictures were sent to him by e-mail while she was alleging he had raped her several times.

The Maltese hairdresser, whose name cannot be published by court order, claims the man raped her repeatedly for hours on end and on an almost daily basis. He is facing separate criminal proceedings over these claims.

The proceedings yesterday were connected to a challenge he has filed against the police, asking them to prosecute the woman for filing false reports.

Mr Stellingwerf wants the woman to be prosecuted on the basis of four criminal complaints he has made against her for lying between November 2013 and August last year.

He gave the magistrate a file of coloured folders containing the photographs sorted by date, including pictures taken during various trips abroad and while the couple were both in Malta.

The photos, retrieved from his camera and the woman’s mobile phone, also include some of her posing naked, close-ups of her private parts and of him wearing women’s lingerie. Some of the photos were sent to him while he was abroad, he claimed.

Taking the witness stand, Mr Stellingwerf gave a descriptive timeline of what happened from the day he met his former partner in Paceville, in March 2013, to the day he was arrested.

The two had consensual sex on the first night, after she had asked him to be her husband for the night, and they continued dating until around June.

He said the two engaged in a “loving relationship” and visited each other in their respective countries. He stayed at her house when he visited Malta.

The couple also travelled together on several occasions, and photos of the trips were presented in court as evidence of this “happy relationship”, during which the woman “never complained”.

Mr Stellingwerf also exhibited pictures of her vagina that she had sent to a Spanish man in Malta while he (Mr Stellingwerf) was on a business trip abroad.

In reply to a question from the magistrate, Mr Stellingwerf said he had taken these photographs from her phone.

“I was very much in love with her and still am. I have never assaulted or raped her, my conscience is clear. If I had raped her, why did she visit me abroad?”

He explained that the relationship turned sour after she refused to pay for marketing services that he provided to her on behalf of a foreign company to help promote her hairdressing business.

He said he had once been raped during a trip to Brazil and would never dream of raping anyone.

He even offered to present medical documentation of when he had been raped and questioned whether it made sense for a woman to travel to Holland to stay with the person who she claimed had raped her several times.

The case continues in July, when Mr Stellingwerf is expected to present more evidence, including e-mails and videos.

Inspector Priscilla Caruana is prosecuting. Lawyer Jason Grima is appearing for the man.
