The first edition of the Noel Vassallo Cup will be contested by champions Nadur Youngsters and Zebbug Rovers.

This competition, open for the first division teams in Gozo, is sponsored by the family of the late Noel Vassallo, a victim in a tragic traffic accident in the United States.

In the preliminary round, Nadur stormed to a 7-0 victory over Xaghra United. Brazilian striker Bizu and Emmanuel Muscat weighed in with a hat-trick each. Nadur's other goal was scored by Kim Buttigieg.

In the semi-finals, Nadur recorded another resounding victory, defeating Xewkija Tigers 4-0, with goals from Mark Buttigieg (16), Chris Camilleri (18) and Bizu (25, 75).

Zebbug Rovers advanced to the semi-finals of the N. Vassallo Cup following a 4-0 victory over Qala St Joseph.

The Rovers' victory matured with goals from Philip Cardona, Joseph Cordina, Michael Portelli and an own-goal by Qala goalkeeper Aaron Refalo.

Ghajnsielem qualified for the semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over Victoria Hotspurs. Aloysius Ihbeulu opened the scoring for Ghajnsielem but Isaac Mopi levelled matters.

The game was still tied at 1-1 at the end of regular time but Ihbeulu scored a golden goal in the 114th minute to earn the Blacks a place in the semi-finals.

Ghajnsielem's bid for a spot in the final was spoiled by Zebbug who obtained a 2-0 victory with second-half goals by Reuben Galea (65) and Silvan Galea (88).
