Xewkija Tigers 0
Nadur Youngsters 3

With the Division One title already secured, Nadur Youngsters' final match against Xewkija Tigers was an ideal occasion for their players and fans to celebrate their success.

Xewkija produced a very good performance in the first hour but failed to keep the champions at bay in the final stages of the match.

Play during the opening half was mainly confined to the middle of the pitch with the result that goalmouth action was a rare commodity.

Xewkija were well organised in defence and Nadur striker Edoardo do Nascimento endured a difficult afternoon as he struggled to evade the tight marking of Sabri Rais.

In the 10th minute, a free-kick by Rais was saved in two attempts by Nadur goalkeeper Vella. At the other end, the champions could have opened the scoring with tries from Anthony Portelli that went wide.

After the break, Nadur injected some adventure into their game and threatened to grab the lead with efforts by Mark Buttigieg, Mario Bonello and Portelli.

The Youngsters were 1-0 up in the 65th minute thanks to a fine header by Anthony Portelli following a good run on the flank by Chris Camilleri.

Five minutes later, the Tigers missed a glorious opportunity to level the scores as Farrugia failed to connect with an inviting cross by Rais.

In the 76th minute, the game was as good as over. A direct free-kick by captain Mario Bonello gave the champions a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Xewkija replied with attempts by Jason Portelli and Joseph Cefai but in the 87th minute, do Nascimento got in on the act as he fired home a firm drive following a solo move.

At the end of the match, Nadur were presented with the championship trophy by Maltacom representatives in the presence of GFA officials.

Qala St Joseph 1
Victoria Hotspurs 5

Victoria Hotspurs ended the championship on a very positive note as they powered their way to a resounding 5-1 win over bottom team Qala St Joseph.

The Saints enjoyed the better of the first half and were dangerous with efforts by Ngangue, Grech and Mifsud. Their persistence paid off in the 43rd minute when a good shot by Charlie Attard gave them the lead.

Victoria Hotspurs started the second half as the more adventurous side in their attempt to turn the tables on their opponents.

Steve Xuereb brought them on level terms two minutes after the re-start and, as the game progressed, they increased their pressure on their opponents' goal.

Victoria had to wait until the 82nd minute to surge ahead with a goal by Isaac Mopi and two minutes later, Xuereb increased their lead after a solo effort.

The score became 4-1 in the 89th minute with another goal by Mopi and, a minute later, John Paul Grima completed Qala's rout.

Referee: George Portelli.

Division Two - Victories for Kercem A, SK Victoria W.

The Division Two league came to an end last weekend when the last two matches were played.

Kercem Ajax cantered to a 7-1 victory over Oratory Youths to finish third in the final standings.

After this defeat, Oratory dropped to second from bottom.

The Ajax's goals were scored by Elton Vella (29th, 81st), Franco Azzopardi (71st, 89th), Ryan Buttigieg (54th, 73rd) and Mario Apap (41st minute penalty).

Oratory had obtained a temporary equaliser from a George Farrugia penalty in the 35th minute.

In the action leading to the penalty, Kercem had Josef Bajada sent off for handling the ball on the goal-line.

The other match from this category was a direct clash between two teams who were aiming to avoid the bottom place.

St Lawrence Spurs and SK Victoria Wanderers produced some entertaining fare as indicated by the 4-3 scoreline in favour of the Wanderers.

Victoria opened a two-goal lead with goals by David Muscat (5th) and Michael Tabone (18th).

The Saints wiped out that deficit with strikes by Jonathan Micallef (22nd) and Matthew Francalanza (24th).

Victoria restored their two-goal buffer with goals by Muscat (74th) and Sunday Eduku (84th) before Ganny Kolawole (89th) reduced the arrears for the Spurs.

GFA Cup quarter-finals

Ghajnsielem reached the semi- finals of the GFA Cup after a 10-0 mauling of Gharb Rangers.

The Blacks, who are aiming to win this competition, scored the goals through Aloysius Ihbeulu (3), Dione Lautier (2), Joseph Buttigieg (2), Brian Meilak, Joseph Attard and Joe Debono.

Zebbug Rovers had a more difficult task than expected to eliminate Second Division side Kercem Ajax as the 1-0 scoreline amply indicates. Philip Cardona obtained the decisive goal for Zebbug in the 35th minute.

Qala St Joseph defeated newly crowned Division Two champions Sannat Lions 2-1 thanks to a 'golden goal' by Joseph Grech. Mark Muscat had given Sannat the lead but Qala equalised through Charlie Attard on 69 minutes.
