A 51-year-old man from Nadur suffered fractures in a crash in Racecourse Street, Nadur late yesterday. 

The man, said to be a policeman, had been driving a Daihatsu Terios which was involved in a head-on collision with a bus driven by a 33-year-old man from Qala at 10.15pm.   

The 51-year-old man had to be assisted by rescuers out of the wreckage of his car before he was taken to hospital.

A Magisterial inquiry is under way.

The police initially said the injuries were life threatening, but later said his situation had improved.
