A fish festival in Marsaxlokk, a festival promoting bread-making and local crafts and folklore in Qormi and an Octoberfest at Ta'Qali will be held this weekend.
The festival at Marsaxlokk opens tomorrow at 7.30 p.m. with a concert by a 75-strong Russian choir. There will be various stands selling fish, and chefs will be on hand to give advise and demonstrate how best to cook fish. There will be various performances, including folk dances, the New Cuori at 8.30 p.m. and Freddie Portelli at 10.30 p.m.
Activities on Sunday start at 10 a.m. and will include a re-enactment of a traditional Maltese wedding at Noon. There will be a concert by George Curmi (Il-Puse') at 12.15 p.m.
CASAL FORNARO AT QORMI
The third edition of the Casal Fornaro festival will feature an array of activities covering several squares and streets in Qormi.
The main purpose of the festival is to showcase crafts and traditions, while entertainment will include the 'terramaxka,' folk singing and local bands. Seven band clubs named after Knights of St John will perform together for the first time. Several popular Maltese and Gozitan singers and dancers will be performing. Feast decorations from various villages that are the works of Chev. Michael Camilleri Cauchi should prove to be an attraction, especially to those who are fans of Maltese festas, will be put on display.
Among the other attractions are a huge pudding with the proceeds going to Puttinu Cares and a life-size house of sweets. There will be food stalls with traditional dishes including the ftira, rabbit and pork served inside a Maltese loaf and other food linked to the culture of Qormi. A variety of Maltese wines and traditional sweets will also be on sale. A group of bakers fom Sicily will also provide their brand of bread. www.casalfornaro.com.
OCTOBERFEST
Bavaria comes to Ta'Qali with Octoberfest celebrations in and around the Fairs and Convention Centre (MFCC). Events start at 7 p.m. today and continue till Sunday, featuring music, food stalls, children's activities, and many varieties of beer!
