The Malta Union of Teachers had asked the Directorate of Educational Services to explain how teachers' last pay cheque did not include the payment for supervision.

The union said that following its initial enquiries, it had been told that heads of school had not submitted the forms on time. But this turned out to be untrue since teachers in all schools were affected.

The  union said it expected a proper investigation and an apology from whoever was responsible.

The union said it was also concerned by the absence of arrangements by the authorities for the teaching grades to benefit from the parental tax rate.

'While many private firms and government departments have advised their employees about this matter, the education authorities do not appear to have made any arrangements,' the union said.

It insisted such arrangements should be made without delay.
