The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) said today that it learnt from the media that a pilot project on students' use of tablet computers will start next January, and it was never consulted.

"In view of this and since the Union does not have information on this project and its implications on educators, students and on work load, the MUT is directing its members not to participate in it until there is an agreement about it. The reason for this is to avoid creating a precedent without any agreement about practices that might be of detriment to the rest of the educators," the union said.

With regards to sabbatical leave for teachers, the MUT said that while it appreciated the government’s promise, it had no details whatsoever about this measure on how it was going to be implemented. The union shall be making its proposals in the coming weeks.
