The cream of Malta's music industry joined hordes of screaming fans at the Eden Arena on Friday evening for the annual Bay Music Awards ceremony.

Christabelle was crowned Best Solo Artist, taking over from two-time winner Ira Losco.

But Losco received rapturous applause when she landed the Best Single award for Idle Motion.

The Best Newcomer award went to Airport Impressions and Best Dance Tune went to Living in the Dark by DJ Ruby.

The Best Band Award went to Salt, while Airport Impressions were named Artistes' Choice.

The night came to a climax with a Singing for Bay Kids performance featuring Ray (The Riffs), Daniel Genius (Bitterside), Janice (Salt) and Nick Morales (No Snow/No Alps).

An album with tracks from the BMA nominees is put together for charity. Proceeds from last year's album, which amounted to some €29,000, went to Fra Diego home. This year, the money will go to the Richmond Foundation.

This year's BMAs will be screened on TVM on Thursday at 8.45 p.m.
