Italian band Mokadelic, which scored the music for the hit television series Gomorrah, performed to a full house on Friday and Saturday night at the university’s Valletta campus.
Gomorrah, which is based on the eponymous book by investigative crime journalist Roberto Saviano, achieved cult status with the launch of the first season in 2014, reaching 1.2 million viewers per episode on Sky Italia before going on to launch on American network Sundance TV.
Not an empty seat was to be seen at the university theatre
The series, which boasts a large following in Malta, is based in Naples and is known for its edgy take on organised crime. The magnificent soundscapes created by Mokadelic complement the dramatic nature of the series, setting the mood for a narrative that explores the darkest side of human nature without taking any shortcuts.
As the five-piece, Rome-based band performed the entire score for the series, accompanied by carefully curated visuals from the show itself, not an empty seat was to be seen at the university theatre, with both nights selling out weeks before and extra seats added at the last minute.
Experimental Maltese band Eyes to Argus opened on both nights to a highly positive response from the audience.
The concert was organised by HairyAmp Promotions and supported by Valletta 2018. The third season of Gomorrah premiered last November.
