Whether Plato would have chosen to share his philosophical thoughts in a marketplace is debatable; not that it made much difference to Maltese folk band Plato’s Dream Machine, whose name is, in some weird kind of way, inspired by the Greek philosopher.

The band has pretty much got everything in place for its highly-anticipated live performance at Valletta’s indoor market in Merchants Street on Friday.

If you’ve seen this raggle-taggle punk-meets-folk combo in action already, you know it’s going to be another night of vibrant, infectious and eclectic entertainment, helmed by PDM’s unique mesh of guitars, violin, accordion, percussion, flute, and of course, that all-important vocal interjection of words and sounds.

The event is being staged in collaboration with other artists and will also feature a ‘theatre poem’ performed by Wendy Ada Moira and Dunstan Attard with music from Mario Sammut, an artistic exhibition by Julian Mallia, Kevin Attard, POQ, Ian Christie, ‘Iella’ and Robert Farrugia, DJ sets in between the live acts and last, but not least, a soup kitchen to keep you warm.

Tickets cost €7 (including a free drink) or €10 (including a free drink and a copy of Plato Dream machine’s Tal-Qamħa EP) and will be available at the door.

Doors open at 9 p.m.
