The PN is calling upon Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to follow "the lecture in good governance” just given to him by Allied Newspapers.

Without entering into the merits of the allegations made that the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Keith Schembri, through his private company Kasco Group, was bribing Allied’s managing director, PN Deputy Leader  Beppe Fenech Adami said that Dr Muscat should follow the example set by the newspaper.

Following these allegations, Allied Newspaper set up an inquiry on the issue and its managing director resigned from his position.

The PN deputy leader said that despite two weeks of serious allegations and revelations concerning his two closest political allies, including the setting up of secret companies in the tax haven of Panama, the Prime Minister still failed to do his duty and take action

“While Allied Newspapers conducted itself in the most serious manner as soon as claims were made, Malta has a Prime Minister who is impotent to act against his chief of staff,” Dr Fenech Adami said.

Dr Fenech Adami said that while, if proved, the claims against Mr Schembri were of a criminal nature, everyone was now asking why the Prime Minister could not act against Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and Mr Schembri.

He said that on the political front, it was enough for the Prime Minister to know that his closest political allies opened up secret trading companies in Panama to sack them at once.

He said that through his “impotence” the Prime Minister was raising more questions about himself and his relations with both Dr Mizzi and Mr Schembri.
