Labour leader Joseph Muscat has reiterated his criticism of the government for having launched a study on the impact of the increase in the power surcharge after raising the surcharge, and not before.

Speaking in Birzebbuga, Dr Muscat said the situation had been made worse by a comment by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech this week that the MLP’s call for an impact assessment was “A populist call which offered no solutions”.

Such a comment, Dr Muscat said, showed that the government did not care what impact the surcharge actually had on the social and economic life of the country.

The Labour leader said the MLP was concerned about what the people were going through and would give a hand whenever it was invited to. Indeed, the party wanted to salute workers currently going through a difficult period, such as those at GO and those at Mater Dei Hospital.
