Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has taken part in a summit meeting of southern European countries where agreement was reach on negotiating positions for Brexit.

The meeting, held in Madrid, opened with a presentation by Dr Muscat about the Maltese presidency and the guidelines presented in Malta by EU president Donald Tusk a day after Brexit was triggered.

The heads of government then discussed their view of the future of Europe and proposals for a multi-speed EU.

Also discussed was the situation in Syria and the Mediterranean, particularly immigration.
