Prime Minister Joseph Muscat discussed Brexit with British Prime Minister Theresa May in London today.

The Department of Information said the talks took place at Westminster Abbey.

The two prime ministers also discussed bilateral relations in the context of Brexit.

Dr Muscat stressed that as EU president, Malta would be an honest broker seeking progress in the Brexit talks in everybody's interest. The EU would not raise obstacles for the UK, but it was obvious that future relations between the EU and the UK would be on the lines of relations which the EU had with third countries, he said.

Malta, he added, would continue to keep the best relations possible with the UK.

Dr Muscat will later today attend a Commonwealth Day event since Malta also holds the chairmanship of the Commonwealth.

The meeting came as Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon paved the way for a second referendum on Scottish independence.
