Labour leader Joseph Muscat yesterday met with Maltese port workers in Melbourne, Australia.

The visit was organised by the Maritime Union of Australia to acknowledge the contribution made by Maltese workers to the Melbourne port and in the field of industrial relations. Around 15,000 port workers in Melbourne are believed to be of Maltese origin.

The Labour Party delegation also held a meeting with Paul Howes, secretary of the Australian Workers Union. The union was for several years steered by Terry Muscat, a Maltese who is considered to be one of the most respected trade unionists in Australia.
