The opposition is willing to work with the government on matters related to the euro, but it will oppose any move to transfer taxation powers to Brussels, Opposition leader Joseph Muscat said.

Speaking at an activity hosted by MEP Edward Scicluna, Dr Muscat said taxation was a symbol of national sovereignty and should be regarded by Malta as a red line issue which could not be surrendered.

Dr Muscat appealed to the prime minister to safeguard Malta's interests at the euro summit tomorrow.
