Labour leader Joseph Muscat this afternoon denied that his party has spent €1 million on the electoral campaign so far.

The claim was made this morning by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, who again asked where Labour was getting its money from.

Dr Muscat in denying the claim, noted that the PL was the only party which published its accounts. Unfortunately, and despite having a PN government for 25 years, Malta still had no party financing law, he said.

However, the enactment of such a law was one of the Labour commitments so that all parties would be required to publish their accounts.

Dr Muscat said it worried him that Dr Gonzi had reached this conclusion because it showed he could not make certain calculations.

CAMPAIGN TEAM STATEMENT

In a statement, the PL campaign team said that it seemed that the prime minister was impressed by the PL campaign.

"We hope that he is enjoying it as much as we are. It's unbelievable what hard work and good financial management can produce.

"If the PM really thinks that Labour spent €1 million in five days, it is not a surprise that he is considered to be the most out of touch Prime Minister in Malta's history. His calculation skills are absolutely out of this world."
