Labour MEP Joseph Muscat was the keynote speaker at the inauguration of the Masters in Local Development programme at the Università Cattolica di Piacenza.

During his lecture, Dr Muscat focussed on the strategies countries opt for to attract foreign direct investment. He stressed the need for a minimum level of co-ordination of these policies at EU level in order avoid duplicating resources and to achieve better results.

During his visit to Piacenza, Dr Muscat was also interviewed by Italian newspapers on his role as vice-president of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.
