Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari joined Sunderland on loan until the end of the season from Inter yesterday.

Muntari, who has previously played in England with Portsmouth, will link up with fellow Ghana internationals John Mensah and Asamoah Gyan at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce believes the 26-year-old, who could make his debut against Stoke next weekend, will prove a big hit for the Black Cats.

Muntari, who has been labelled difficult and who was nearly sent home during Ghana’s great run to the World Cup quarter-finals last year, helped Inter win the Champions League last season but had fallen out of favour at the San Siro since Jose Mourinho’s departure.

“Sulley is a fabulous acquisition for the club,” Bruce said.

“When the opportunity arises to bring in a player of his ability – even in the short term you have to take it, and I’m delighted that we have been able to.”
