The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses has withdrawn its directives to nurses following an agreement with the health authorities on issues at Mater Dei and Mount Carmel hospitals, Health Minister Chris Fearne said this morning.

In a tweet, the minister said:

“Agreement reached w MUMN on way forward w issues at Mater Dei as well as at Mount Carmel. MUMN withdraws directives."

The union declared its dispute on Wednesday following the escape of a patient from Mount Carmel Hospital a few days ago.

It claimed that a shortage of nurses led to the escape.

It ordered nurses not to take an oath before appearing in front of the investigation board, not to open and close the main hall door of Mount Carmel for workers who, up until a few days ago had a key, and not to fill out forms related to first level constant watches or treatment orders meant to be filled out by other professionals.
