The American trimaran Phaedo3 has won line honours of the Middle Sea Race, sailing into Marsamxett just after midnight today to complete the 600-mile race in an elapsed time of 2 days 11 hours 29 minutes and 41 seconds.

Skipper Lloyd Thornburg, co-skipper Brian Thompson and their crew made the best of the light wind conditions which characterised the race to beat off stiff competition from former winner Rambler, which came in four hours later, the first of the monohulls.

The yachts were greeted at the Royal Malta Yacht Club by Commodore, Godwin Zammit.
