A man told the police today that two days ago he was mugged in the street, had his hands and feet bound and was taken home, which was ransacked without anything being stolen.

In a statement, the police said the man, 63, formally filed his report this afternoon at about 4 p.m.

He told the police that last Tuesday at about 10.30 p.m. he was attacked by three persons while walking in St Peter Street, Mgarr. Two of them carried firearms.

The man said his feet and hands were bound and cash and jewellery which he was carrying were stolen.

The men then took his house keys and took him into his house. One of them stood guard over him in a bedroom while the others ransacked the place. They left a short time later, without stealing anything.

The man was sent to a health centre by the police so that his injuries could be seen.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is holding an inquiry.
