The Malta Union of Bank Employees (MUBE) has directed its members to observe a 'communications ban' tomorrow after talks on a collective agreement reached a stalemate.

The union accused the Church-owned bank of a lack of understanding of staff concerns and an 'intransigent' attitude in talks.

The union said there was disagreement on several issues, with the financial package being one of the main hurdles.

"The union has been quite reasonable in understanding the bank's proposals as to the phasing out of certain processes while the same cannot be said for APS Bank when dealing with MUBE's proposals," the union said.

The union said it had also directed the staff not to attend a meeting 'unscrupulously' called by the management for Friday afternoon (eve of Santa Maria) with the collective agreement as the main item on the agenda.
