The MUBE Malta Union of Bank Employees has accused the GWU of  making false claims for recognition in financial those institutions where collective agreement negotiations are currently underway.

"The effect of this irresponsible behaviour is an attempt to stall all negotiations to the detriment of the employees and the employer concerned. This is an insult to effective collective bargaining and to ethical trade unionism," the MUBE said.

"The practices and tactics adopted by the PFS Section of the GWU are not only ‘alien’ in the trade union world but are a threat to job stability and totally against ameliorating the working terms and conditions of the employees."

In a reply, the GWU denied the MUBE's claims.

"The union denies making any false claims for recognition. The union only makes requests where it is certain of the state of affairs and in representation of the employees concerned. Regretfully MUBE expects to represent employees, even where no such right exists any longer due to choices made by employees," the GWU said.
