The committee of the Ghaqda Melita, Banda San Guzepp of Msida this morning expressed “total confidence” in its president, Vince Azzopardi, in the wake of comments he made to The Sunday Times and a statement issued yesterday by the College of Parish Priests.

The society said that Mr Azzopardi in his phone interview with journalist Cynthia Busuttil had never intended to show disrespect to patients at Mater Dei Hospital or hospital visitors.

The society said that while sypathising with the problems faced by those wishing to let off fireworks for the feast, Mr Azzopardi had been “principally” referring to the feast celebration in the heart of Msida, which did not require the closure of many roads.

“Mr Azzopardi believes that, as in the past, discussion round a table will achieve solutions for everyone’s benefit and the people of Msida will be able to enjoy their feast quietly and in a Christian spirit,” the society said.
