During this morning’s trading session on the Borza, the MSE Share Index edged 0.2% higher to yet another fresh 33-month high of 3,565.136 points. The latest uplift in the local equity benchmark was due to increases in the share prices of HSBC Bank Malta plc and GO plc.

HSBC edged 0.4% higher to regain the €2.56 level across six deals totalling 15,500 shares. Similarly, fresh demand lifted the share price of GO 1.8% higher to €1.715 – its highest closing price since mid-March 2011. Last week, Forthnet announced that the period for its shareholders to trade the rights entitlement has been extended from 18 December to 27 December. Meanwhile, shareholders wishing to exercise their rights must do so by 3 January.

The equity of Malta International Airport plc also edged 0.5% higher to regain the €2.10 level albeit on a small deal of 985 shares.

On the bond market, the Rizzo Farrugia MGS Index edged 0.1% higher to 1,020.609 points as Eurozone yields eased this morning following disappointing private sector activity in France and factory activity in China. However, yields regained the 1.83% by this afternoon, after the private sector survey covering the whole of the Eurozone was ahead of expectations. Nonetheless, bond markets are highly focused this week on the monetary policy meeting of the US Federal Reserve which comes to an end on Wednesday.
