The Malta Stock Exchange Share Index increased by 57.779 points or 2.15 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,751.04.

Bank of Valletta had the highest equity turnover for the week with trading opening at Lm3.77 on Monday and going up to close yesterday's session at Lm3.815. The price ranged between Lm3.77 and Lm3.82. Total turnover amounted to 49,109 shares changing hands over 59 deals. The best unsatisfied bids and offers following yesterday's session were 300 shares at Lm3.80 and 443 shares at Lm3.818 respectively.

In the meantime, HSBC opened the week at Lm7 and went on to gain 15c (2.143 per cent) during the week to close at Lm7.15 yesterday. Turnover amounting to 46,426 shares changed hands over 37 deals. Following close of business yesterday, 300 shares at Lm7.10 and 1,200 shares at Lm7.15 were the respective best unsatisfied bids and offers.

Trading in Maltacom opened the week at Lm1.40 and closed yesterday's session at Lm1.43 after increasing by 3c (2.143 per cent) during the week. Thirty-one deals were struck in Maltacom shares this week, in which 39,685 shares changed hands. Following yesterday's session, best bids of 6,300 shares at Lm1.42 and best offers of 4,615 shares at Lm1.45 remained outstanding.

In a company announcement issued on Tuesday, Datatrak Holdings plc announced that further to the already announced agreement between Datatrak Nigeria Ltd and Datatrak MENA Ltd the necessary financial instruments have been put in place thus enabling the start of preliminary work in Nigeria. Meanwhile, trading in Datatrak shares opened the week at Lm0.225 and experienced a positive week increasing a total of 20 per cent to close yesterday's session at Lm0.27. Total turnover amounted to 30,350 shares changing hands over a total of ten deals. As yesterday's session drew to a close 2,000 shares at Lm0.255 and 650 shares at Lm0.27 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place; 2,191 Middlesea Insurance shares at Lm2.05; 3,694 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares between Lm1.13 and Lm1.12; 25,142 International Hotel Investments shares between €0.801 and €0.76; 20,300 Plaza Centres shares at Lm0.68 and 6,874 Malta International Airport at Lm0.87.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm 718,600 being traded in 52 deals over 15 different stocks. Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm185,582.
