The Malta Police Association has called for a change in the way policemen are paid for extra duties.

It explained that at present, officers deployed on extra duties are only paid when the third parties who would have requested the police presence pay the police force. As a result, sometimes months and even years elapse before officers are paid.

The MPA is insisting that since the officers are deployed on extra duties by the Force, and the officers themselves have no link with the parties, they should be paid promptly by the Force.

The association regretted that its appeals have so far been ignored.
