The Unborn Child Movement is seeking the support of all political parties in its bid to promote Malta as a Mediterranean centre for “womb ecology” which lays emphasis on the principle that life starts from conception.

The call was made this morning when representatives from the movement made a courtesy visit to President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, as part of activities marking the Day for Life.

Addressing the press ahead of the talks, movement head Anthony Mifsud said the concept of the “womb ecology” should be a common denominator between all political parties as they all declared to be pro-life.

He added that their intention was to lobby so that all parties would take this concept onboard in their respective manifestos for the next general election.

On her part, President Coleiro Preca said that in the process of decision making, authorities should also keep in mind the effect on the unborn child. She added that certain environmental issues like pollution and the emission of toxic substances were becoming a threat even for pregnant women.

In this respect she welcomed government’s plan to convert power generation from heavy fuel oil to gas, as well as the recently enacted law piloted by the Opposition to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Following the meeting, the President, together with representatives from the Unborn Child Movement walked together to St John’s Co-Cathedral where Archbishop Charles Scicluna celebrated Mass.
