Motorists have been urged to avoid the Kappara roundabout as the contractor today intensifies work in connection with the new junction project.

These will be the first major road closures in connection with the Kappara junction project.

Transport Malta said in a statement that the contractor will be working on the National Pool side of Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli for the coming weeks. Although part of the main artery will be cordoned off, four lanes will remain open. Barriers will be placed and lines will be painted after 8pm today for traffic lanes to shift towards the side of the university.

The university side of the road, with two lanes northbound and two lanes southbound, will remain accessible for vehicles from tomorrow while the contractor will be working at street level on the National Pool side. The contractor will be installing services, storm water systems and lowering the road level. Transport Malta said it was installing directional signs to indicate alternative routes while works on Kappara project were ongoing.

Transport Malta urged drivers to avoid the area whenever possible and to follow temporary signs and officials’ instructions as well as respect the speed limit to ensure the safety of workers on site.
