A motorcyclist was seriously injured in Salina this morning after he clipped the bollards installed in the middle of the road, according to witnesses.
The incident happened in Triq is-Salina around 12.30am, forcing the closure of the road until the cyclist was rushed to hospital. Police told Times of Malta his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
A spokesman from the Maghtab Residents Association said the bollards have been the cause of several accidents since they are hardly visible, especially at night.
The bollards were installed following the death of a driver two years ago in what should have been a temporary solution, the association said.
"Practically every day the residents of the locality have to collect parts of cars which would have hit these bollards."
The area is located just up the road from where the planning authority recently recommended a permit for a new petrol station.
