Mother’s Day, which is marked tomorrow, was celebrated in prison with mothers spending time with their children in a relaxing atmosphere.

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela and his wife visited the women. The minister spoke on the importance that dignity is shown to the mothers and fathers in jail and said children should not suffer because of the mistakes of their parents.

Following the inauguration of a playroom earlier during this administration work was ongoing to create a better environment for children who visited their parents in prison, to make it seem that it was not part of the facility.

Today’s event was organised by the Fondazzjoni mid-Dlam għad-Dawl.

Chairman Ġorg Busuttil insisted on the need for good contact to be retained between children and parents in prison.
