A mother of five this morning admitted she had defrauded five people of some €320,000 in September 2010.

The 36-year-old woman, Dorianne Dagdeviren nee Zammit, of Zurrieq, had claimed to have property in which she wanted the five people to invest.

The victims gave her the money to cover expenses and the investment but when they could not trace her after giving her €320,000, they filed a police complaint against her.

A European arrest warrant was in the process of being issued when they traced her in Malta.

Through her lawyer Arthur Azzopardi, the woman, whose five children are in homes, said the money was mainly used for the welfare of her children and to pay debts from a previous marriage. The amount was actually €130,000, as the rest covered interest and other expenses.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi ordered a pre-sentencing report to be drawn up before handing down judgement next month.
