Mosta and Naxxar Lions tore into each to produce an exciting derby which saw the Blues prevail 4-2 at the National Stadium.

Mosta quickly seized control of the match and surged into a two-goal lead midway through the first half.

Danilo Doncic’s team took the lead on 28 minutes when from a Ricardo Faria Silva free-kick, Tyrone Farrugia’s scrambled effort was somehow blocked by Naxxar goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi and from the rebound Manolito Micallef blasted the ball home.

Mosta doubled their lead two minutes later when Bojan Kaljevic surged clear and unleashed a powerful drive that gave no chance to Azzopardi.

Naxxar sprang to life early in the second half and on 50 minutes Pablo Doffo sent a teasing cross towards Thiago who headed the ball past Omar Borg.

The Lions kept pushing forward and they managed to draw level four minutes later when Ousseni Zongo released Darren Falzon who blasted the ball past Borg.

But Mosta regained the initiative on 67 minutes when Ryan Grech unleashed a powerful volley with the ball flying into the top corner of the net.

Naxxar tried to salvage the match but it was Mosta who added a fourth goal late on when Kaljevic picked Ricardo Silva Faria on the edge of the area and the Brazilian hit a low shot that had the better of Azzopardi.

Mosta striker Bojan Kaljevic was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
