The owners of a large tract of land in Mosta which had been gathering debris for years have finally cleared the site after pressure from Mepa.

The site is in Triq il-Lunzjata, along the periphery of Wied il-Ghasel.

The material also included  heavy machinery, tyres and industrial storage containers.

Mepa explained that enforcement notices for the site were served between 1996 and 1998. The owners challenged the notices a number of times, but both the Appeals Board and the courts ruled in favour of the Authority.

When officials finally moved in to clear the site,  the owners requested Mepa to suspend the operation so that they could abide by the enforcement notices. The Authority consented on condition that all illegalities were removed within a week. Enforcement officers carried out site inspections to ensure that works were in hand.

The Authority reduced the size of the entrance by constructing a boundary wall leaving only walk-through access.
