Mosta moved within touching distance from a place in the Championship Pool after they edged past Floriana 2-1 at the Hibs Stadium.

The match turned out to be a balanced affair with both teams creating a number of chances in the opening half with Floriana having the best chance on 32 minutes when Clyde Borg unleashed a powerful drive that forced Justin Haber into an excellent chance.

The match came to life on the restart and Mosta took the lead on 53 minutes. Danail Mitev’s inswinging cross was met by Steve Chimieka who deviated the ball past Floriana goalkeeper Tony Warner.

Floriana fought back strongly and they managed to draw level 11 minutes from time when Igor Coronado hit a curling drive that flew into the top corner of the net.

However, it was the Blues who had the final say when Manolito Micallef’s curling cross picked Daniel Bogdanovic who headed the ball past the diving Warner.

Mosta’s Danail Mitev was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
