The Website of the Year award – Britain’s most important people’s choice award for websites – has named hotel reservation site Hotel.info the most popular for the Leisure and Travel category, knocking reigning winner Trip Advisor off the number one spot.

Hotel.info, listing more than 250,000 hotels worldwide in over 19,000 locations, defeated 2012 winner Trip Advisor, which has won the award for the past two years, and also beat other sites including British Airways, booking.com and Expedia with the highest amount of votes in the category.

Country manager Andreas Klug said: “Trusted by business customers for many years, the award shows that we offer all hotel customers ideal solutions and the best user experience.

“Hotel.info is proud to receive the award for the most popular Website of the Year in the Leisure and Travel category, especially because this is the opinion of internet users throughout all customer groups.”

The award night at The Brewery in London last month saw 238 websites nominated across 20 categories, with more than 88,600 votes cast. Other winners included Amazon in the Shopping category, You Tube in the Media and Entertainment category and Vodafone for the Telecom category.

The Website of the Year award is the online people’s choice award initiative by online market research agency MetrixLab and Emerce. (PA)
