Three quarters of Maltese experience access problems when travelling in built up areas, a study published earlier today has found.

Figures compiled by a Eurobarometer survey found that Maltese were the most likely to encounter difficulties when trying to access businesses activities and during their daily commute.

Maltese were the most likely to say road congestion was a serious problem. Some 92 per cent viewed heavy traffic as a serious problem. Denmark and Finland, on the other hand, were least likely to view this as a problem at 47 per cent and 27 per cent respectively.

Maltese were also among the most pessimistic countries with 57 per cent saying they felt the situation would likely get worse.

Less than a quarter of Europeans believed the urban traffic situation would improve in the future.

Respondents in Malta were also the most likely to say complain of traffic-related pollution. Some 92 per cent felt noise pollution was a serious problem and 95 per cent viewed air pollution as a threat.
