A quarter of a million visitors were in Malta in August, an increase of nearly four per cent when compared to the same month last year.

Out of a total 248,284 visitors, 5,682 were here on business.

Inbound visitors from the EU increased by six per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2014 and most of them were aged between 25 and 44.

The total amount of nights spent also increased, by 5.1 per cent, when compared to August 2014, reaching nearly 2.4 million nights.

There was a surge in tourist expenditure, estimated at €276.2 million, which was up 7.3 per cent.
