More than €3,000 were raised this morning by a group of people who braved the cold water at Għadira Bay in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

The event went ahead as other charity events, such as the police charity motorcycle ride and a Santas gathering in Fort St Angelo were postponed by a week.

Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Dar tal-Providenza thanked all those who swam and helped raise this sum and urged the Maltese public to once again show its generosity towards id-Dar tal-Providenza during the open day on New Year’s Day.

The charity swim was the initiative of Manuel Calleja of Koptaco Coaches Cooperative Ltd in conjunction with the Malta Rugby Football Union and a number of enthusiasts of boxing, kick-boxing, thai boxing, karate and martial arts.

Last year €2,343 were raised in aid of the Siġġiewi Home.
