Less than a week after forking out more than €7 million in l-Istrina, the Maltese on Tuesday once again dug into their pockets and raised a record €1,275,442 for the Dar tal-Providenza during New Year’s day Feast of Generosity.

Many were those who made it to Siġġiewi to give their donation under the big tent set up in the parking lot. Various parishes in Malta and Gozo made special collections during church celebrations and presented them during the telethon.

Home director Fr Martin Micallef, said that this year’s edition had once again shown the solidarity with and generosity of the Maltese people towards the home. He said the funds collected will enable the home to continue to provide a better quality of life for its residents.

The marathon was visited by, among others, Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna who celebrated Mass in the home’s chapel, President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and her husband Edgar, Economy Minister Chris Cardona on behalf of the Prime Minister, Opposition leader Adrian Delia, Archbishop Emeritus Pawl Cremona OP and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea Curmi.
