Cruise liner The World stopped for the day off Mġarr harbour as part of a two-day visit to Malta.

Following the success of its first visit, the operators again included the Maltese islands as a port of call, even though normally this ship does not call at the same ports in consecutive years.

There were 165 passengers on board, mostly Americans, together with 255 crew. Some of these passengers own apartments on The World throughout the year.

A considerable number of passengers as well as some of the crew took the opportunity to tour Gozo for the day.

This is the second call by cruise liners in Gozo since August. Similar visits are expected to take place in the near future following the Malta Environment and Planning Authority's decision to give the green light for the construction of a buoy for cruise liners in Xlendi.
