The Malta Motorsport Federation has added its voice to calls for a revision of speed limits on the speed cameras currently being installed.

The Federation said that the key to safe driving was not excessive punishment but education. Chairman Tonio Cini said in a statement that speed cameras should be a tool for law enforcement on drivers exceeding a reasonable speed limit.

But the 60Km/h limit would cause sudden braking risking accidents and traffic pile-ups. He urged the ADT to revise the limits to 80 Km/hr as indicated by the Highway Code.

Mr. Cini offered the Federation’s services to assist the ADT in establishing the appropriate road safety awareness campaigns.
