Although Malta is weathering the international crisis, it cannot rest on its laurels. To stimulate our economy, all possible must be done to invest in more capital projects to continue generating jobs.

The ongoing projects - the repaving of St George's Square and the restoration works of kilometres of bastions - are to be commended.

Soon Renzo Piano's plans will take off and works to revamp the Old Opera House and the Valletta entrance will finally start. We recently learned that tenders have been issued for the re-construction and upgrading of four major roads in a €45 million EU co-founded project.

The government is investing well and all these projects are vital, not only for aesthetic purposes; more importantly, they are crucial to help us reduce our unemployment rate.

Perhaps, in the not too distant future, the government will consider investing in the restoration of forts St Angelo and St Elmo.
