Inter president Massimo Moratti wants an immediate reaction from his out-of-form side in Wednesday's Champions League match against Twente.
The Nerazzurri head into their European encounter on the back of yesterday's 2-1 defeat at Chievo that dropped them to sixth in Serie A.
"The team and the coach have to understand the importance of Wednesday's game," said Moratti on the club's official website, www.inter.it.
"Tired or not, the team will have to show a lot of determination because otherwise we will not get anywhere."
When asked if coach Rafael Benitez will still have his backing regardless of Wednesday's outcome, Moratti said: "That, yes, but in the meantime, let's try and take a good result that is already important."
Benitez, who replaced Jose Mourinho in the summer, called for unity ahead of Wednesday's match and the Spanish coach feels he still has the full support of Moratti.
"I am happy that he (Benitez) feels that way as neither the club nor the team have certainly shown a lack of confidence in him," Moratti said.
Sunday's loss left Inter nine points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan.
They have just one win in their last six league games.
"The day after a defeat is never pleasurable because you realise you are further behind," Moratti said.
"You understand that there is a negative situation because of results.
"The justifications are the same as before the game (against Chievo), in other words, the many absent players that don't allow you to change anything.
"But we have games coming up and we go forward trying to respond on both the domestic front and the Champions League."
Inter are still without injured Diego Milito, Walter Samuel, Thiago Motta, Maicon, Julio Cesar and Coutinho.
