The government plans to set up a monument to celebrate the Republic next year and will be calling on artists to submit maquettes and suggest locations for the monument in January.

The monument will be inaugurated as part of the activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Republic, bringing to an end a year of anniversary celebrations of different occasions including Freedom, Malta’s entry in the European Union and Independence.

The government said that three monuments dedicated to Maltese personalities who left their mark on the country’s recent history, Presidents Censu Tabone and Guido de Marco and Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, will also be inaugurated next year.
