The Monaco U-18 team finished runners-up in the European Championship for women Division C, which came to a close at Ta' Qali yesterday, after beating Malta 68-61 in a decisive match with the runners-up spot at stake.

Luxembourg were declared champions of the competition, as they won all their four matches in convincing style.

Yesterday, they trounced wooden-spoonists Gibraltar 110-41 to finish with a perfect record at the top of the standings.

The second match was evenly balanced as Monaco only enjoyed a one-point lead at the half-time break (32-31). However, the Maltese girls were guilty of some erratic play late on which practically cost them the match.

The best scorers for Malta yesterday were Justine Busuttil, 18 points, and Steffi DeMartino, 17 points.

The Malta Basketball Associa-tion will also host the U-18 Division C European Championship for men, starting tomorrow at Ta' Qali.

Final standings: Luxembourg (4-0) 8; Monaco (3-1) 7; Malta (2-2) 6; Moldova (1-3) 5; Gibraltar (0-4) 4.
