The Malta Maritime Authority has applauded a decision by Valletta Gateway Terminals not to increase export fees for the local manufacturing industry.

In a brief statement sent today to the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the Association of Ship Agents, the GRTU and the Association of Tractors & Trailers Operators, VGT general manager Ricky Yong said “we are sensitive to the particular needs of today’s industry and we are well aware of the current challenging economic environment in which this industry is compelled to operate.

“In view of this, we have decided to retain the same tariffs for locally manufactured goods being exported, a move that should sustain the local export industry’s competitiveness.”

The MMA expressed its satisfaction at VGT’s decision and said the cargo operator’s approach should be lauded by industry.
