The Labour Party has described Manwel Dimech bridge as a monument to Nationalist government incompetence.

The bridge was fully reopened for traffic on Monday afternoon. The project was €2.3 million over budget and 15 months late, the party pointed out.

It noted that Austin Gatt, now the minister responsible for the roads, had asked the Transport Authority for a detailed report on what had caused the problems in this project. This, the MLP said, did not reflect seriousness since the ADT itself had been directly responsible for the confusion which characterised the project.

It said that any report should also investigate whether there was a breach of ethics through the involvement in this project of the partnership DTR whose owner, architect Robert Sant, was a partner with former roads minister Jesmond Mugliett in another company, Sant & Mugliett.
