The Mission Fund will be holding its annual televised marathon next Sunday between noon and midnight.

The aim of the marathon is to expose the situation in missionary lands and to show the determination of Maltese missionaries to improve the lives of others.

The Mission Fund supports hundreds of Maltese missionaries, including eight bishops, by sending regular donations.

It also prepares teams of volunteers who wish to have hands-on experience for approximately five weeks at missionary stations.

The funds raised are utilised exclusively to finance the projects requested by the missionaries.

The Mission Fund focuses on health and education-related projects . The 20 projects carried out so far include schools, clinics, hospital extensions and centres for people with special needs.

These projects have been realised in various African and South American countries. Assistance was also provided for a fish farm project in Guatemala.

This year, two teams of volunteers will be undertaking two separate projects: a new maternity ward requested by Sr Maria Borda, a doctor responsible for a 160-bed hospital in Tanzania, and a centre for poor people at Guatemala’s Isabal, the new parish of Fr Anton Grech.

Donation lines are open on: 5160 2010 to donate €10; 5170 2015 to donate €15; 5180 2025 to donate €25; SMS 5061 8071 to donate € 4.66, or SMS 5061 9203 to donate €11.65.
